Trip plan
Day 1: Tangier – Asilah
Morning departure from Tangier for the wonderful Atlantic town of Asilah. We visit its medina, with clean, quiet white houses decorated with colourful murals. Riad accommodation with breakfast.
Day 2: Asilah – Tetouan – Chefchaouen
After breakfast we head to Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit its old Andalusian medina. We then continue to the beautiful blue town of Chefchaouen. Its whole medina is fascinating: narrow cobbled streets full of small craft shops, blue and white houses, welcoming, ever-smiling inhabitants, an Andalusian air and the surrounding mountains… Wandering aimlessly through its streets is a perfect way to spend the day, discovering a thousand surprising corners. Riad accommodation with breakfast.
Day 3: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes
After breakfast we head to the Roman city of Volubilis to visit its archaeological remains, probably the best preserved Roman site in this part of North Africa, added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997. We then continue to the holy city of Fes via Meknes. Fes is one of the four imperial cities, with Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat, and is considered the religious and cultural heart of the country. Its maze of streets and the medina of Fes el-Bali (old Fes) form one of the largest medieval sites in the world today, its gates and surrounding walls adding to its magnificence. Riad accommodation with breakfast.
Day 4: Fes
After breakfast, a visit of the city with a local guide. Riad accommodation with breakfast.
After breakfast we head to Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco for its Swiss-style buildings. We stop in the ancient cedar forest of Azrou to watch the macaques that live there, then continue through the Middle Atlas to Midelt. We follow the Ziz Valley and its gorges to Errachidia and reach Erfoud, famous for producing and exporting fossils and minerals. In the afternoon we reach Merzouga and ride dromedaries to sleep in the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Night in haimas with dinner and breakfast. Music, drums, stars…
Day 6: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Khamlia – Merzouga
In the morning we ride the dromedaries back to the hotel for a shower and begin the great route of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We visit the village of Khamlia, of sub-Saharan origin, whose inhabitants descend from slaves brought from Sudan, and enjoy their spiritual, traditional music called Gnawa, as well as the mines. After lunch, back to the hotel for a relaxing afternoon. Hotel accommodation with dinner and breakfast.
Day 7: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges
After breakfast we continue to the wonderful Todra Gorges with their impressive vertical walls and river. In the afternoon we reach the Dades Gorges, where we stay with dinner and breakfast.

After breakfast we head to Ouarzazate (the city of cinema) through the wonderful Valley of Roses, a spectacular landscape of oases and old kasbahs, many of them abandoned. In Ouarzazate, optional visit of the film studios. We then visit the oldest and best preserved ksar in Morocco, a World Heritage Site, Ait Ben Haddou, where films such as Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven were shot.
