Hand luggage
On the plane you are entitled to one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10 kg, whose three dimensions must not add up to more than 115 cm. A laptop is allowed and does not count as hand luggage.
We recommend that you carry with you any medicines you need during the trip, as well as valuables such as laptops, mobile phones, electronic organisers, personal documents, ID, jewellery, etc.
Vehicle
Don’t forget to ask your insurer for the Green Card, the proof that your insurance has international cover. If you don’t bring your insurance green card to Morocco, you will be refused entry at the border and, to continue your trip, you will have to buy border insurance, which is far from cheap.
Driving in Morocco without the Green Card is like driving uninsured: you are subject to the laws that penalise uninsured driving there, and you are personally liable for any damage if you cause an accident.

What to pack for the desert
Sunglasses, sun cream, mosquito repellent, lip balm, soap, tissues, ibuprofen, aspirin, laxatives and anti-diarrhoea medicine (just in case), comfortable shoes, flip-flops, a jacket for the cold nights and batteries for any devices that need them (batteries in Africa are of very poor quality).
Food
Travellers from other countries should only drink bottled mineral water. Green tea is part of the tradition and a real ritual to welcome newcomers. The national dishes are tajine and couscous, steamed wheat semolina served with a delicious stew of vegetables and meat.
Shopping
Morocco is a developing country, so everything is a little cheaper than in Europe. Bartering — exchanging goods or food — still takes place today as it did in the past.
Haggling is the norm: when buying, negotiate the price with the seller skilfully and without going too far.
