Trip plan
Day 1: Tangier
Arrival in Tangier and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation with breakfast.
Day 2: Tangier – Chefchaouen – Fes
We start the route with a stop in Chefchaouen, founded in the 15th century by the Nasrids of Granada, a true reflection of a lost paradise: narrow winding streets of white and indigo houses, centuries-old mosques and the murmur of water among its old stones. We reach Fes in the afternoon.
Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt
Visit of the medina of Fes and departure into the Middle Atlas mountains, through the great cedar forests and their inhabitants, the macaques. We stay in a friendly, quiet town devoted to farming and herding. Accommodation with dinner and breakfast.
Day 4: Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga
After breakfast we continue south, leaving the mountains behind, and reach Errachidia, where the first large palm groves of the trip appear. These green oases create an ideal microclimate for growing all kinds of fruit trees and vegetables. We continue to Erfoud, economic capital of the Tafilalet region, where fossils abound, bearing witness to a past covered by the sea. From here the asphalt gives way to Saharan tracks leading to the mud-brick village of Merzouga. Hotel dinner and accommodation.
Day 5: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Khamlia
After breakfast we drive another of the tracks used in the Paris–Dakar Rally, visiting desert nomads to share tea with them and seeing the oasis where films such as “Sahara”, starring Penélope Cruz, were shot. We also visit the village of Khamlia, whose inhabitants descend from slaves brought from Sudan. In the afternoon we return to the hotel and swap the 4x4 for dromedaries to sleep in haimas in the heart of the dunes.
Day 6: Merzouga – Taouz – Ouzina
After breakfast we ride the dromedaries back to the hotel for a shower and continue to Ouzina along the famous Paris–Dakar Rally track. On the way we pass several Berber villages and share tea with the locals, discovering their culture and customs. In the afternoon we reach Ouzina and the Kasbah Hotel Riad Porte du Sahara, for a pleasant, quiet stay and a well-deserved rest. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 7: Ouzina
Free day to visit the village of Ouzina and its surroundings, discovering the way of life and customs of its inhabitants and sharing with them, as a sign of hospitality, a “Berber whisky”, as they affectionately call mint tea. If you like, you can get Berber henna designs, always done by a specialist. Lunch will be a delicious Berber pizza. In the afternoon we return to the hotel, and after dinner we enjoy live Berber music again — an unforgettable experience you can join in.
After breakfast we continue along the Paris–Dakar track towards Alnif, passing several Berber villages with mud-brick houses. In the afternoon we reach the Todra Gorges. Accommodation with dinner and breakfast.
Day 9: Todra – Dades Valley – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate
After breakfast we leave for the Dades Gorges, crossing these wonderful gorges, and head to Skoura to visit its fantastic palm grove. In the afternoon we reach Ouarzazate and visit the Taourirt Kasbah. Dinner and accommodation in a riad-hotel.
Day 10: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast we head to the best preserved ksar, a World Heritage Site, Ait Ben Haddou. After the visit we continue to Marrakech across the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with its many Berber villages and farms. Arrival in Marrakech and visit of the city, full of places of unrivalled architectural and cultural value, including the famous, exotic and frenetic Jemaa el-Fna square at the entrance of the medina, recognised by UNESCO as cultural heritage. Riad accommodation with breakfast.
Day 11: Marrakech – Tangier by motorway
The last stage of the route by motorway to Tangier, passing Asilah and arriving in Tangier in the afternoon. Accommodation with breakfast.
