3-Day Tour from Ouarzazate – Merzouga – Ouarzazate

After breakfast we head to the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river, stopping to admire the magnificent mud-brick kasbahs and Berber villages along the route. After lunch in Alnif we reach the impressive Merzouga dunes, where the locals welcome us with tea while we rest from the journey. Afterwards you can walk in the dunes to watch the sunset. After breakfast we explore the oases around the Erg Chebbi dunes. We visit the village of Khamlia and the abandoned town of Mfis, discovering small villages and houses inhabited in unexpected places, far from all civilisation. We also visit nomads in the area and share tea with them under their tents. At sunset, an optional camel ride into the sea of dunes to witness an unforgettable sunset and spend a magical night in the heart of the desert, in nomad tents.

After watching the sunrise over the dunes we return to the hotel for a shower. We drive through Rissani, ancient Sijilmassa, the supply centre for the old caravans coming from the Sahara, then across a semi-desert landscape to the oasis of Tinghir, possibly one of the most beautiful places in Morocco. Following the Todra river upstream we reach its impressive gorges, more than 300 metres high. After a short visit of the village we take the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Gorges, where over time the river has eroded the rock into a peculiar landscape. We arrive in Ouarzazate, one of the most important cities in southern Morocco, known for its intense film activity — Gladiator, Troy, The Mummy… Hotel accommodation and end of our services.
