Description

VIAJE AL DESIERTO offers you this tour, but if you would like something different — changing the route, adding or removing days — send us your proposal and we will be delighted to tailor your trip… Your adventure.
The price depends on the number of people, the number of days and the accommodation category.

**IMPORTANT: please note that Zagora is not a desert of large dunes. It is a rocky desert with small dunes. If you would like to go deeper, via M’Hamid, to the Erg Lihoudi desert (the Dunes of the Jews) or to Erg Chegaga, two more days are needed.

Trip plan

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Morning departure for Ouarzazate, visiting on the way the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987), a fortified complex inside a walled village you will surely recognise: this citadel has been the set of famous films such as Gladiator, Sahara and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, among many others. Lunch at the kasbah and on to Ouarzazate. Panoramic view of the city and of the Taourirt Kasbah, once the residence of Pasha Glaoui, with a visit of its main rooms, including the “Pasha’s room” with beautiful views over the valley. Accommodation with dinner and breakfast in Ouarzazate.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Agdz – Zagora desert
After breakfast we head to the town of Agdz over the Tizi n’Tinifift pass (1,660 m), a succession of steep black and grey rocky hills of unusual beauty offering a matchless panorama of the Draa Valley. Little by little we enter the majestic Draa Valley palm grove, the largest in Africa at more than 150 km long, dotted with kasbahs, villages and orchards.

We leave the road for a track leading into the heart of the palm grove and finally reach the Zagora desert, where the caravans from legendary Timbuktu used to arrive. Before sunset we go to the Berber camp where we spend the night. On arrival, a welcome tea, a camel ride and a sunset you will never forget. To end the day, another wonderful experience: dinner by the campfire and a night in a haima. Accommodation with dinner and breakfast.
Day 3: Zagora desert – Marrakech
An early start today to enjoy sunrise in the desert, watching the day break as the desert slowly fills with light, wrapped in incredible silence. Breakfast and departure for Zagora to visit Tamegroute, its potters and its underground kasbah. Then back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon.
